I happened upon an excellent article in The New Yorker featuring former US Vice-President Al Gore in which Gore re-emphasizes our urgent need to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels (and decouple the fossil fuel industry from the US government).
An interesting fact that you don't hear in conversations is that the temperature rise impacts of burning fossil fuels would cease almost immediately with a transition to renewables. And "half of all human-caused greenhouse-gas pollution will fall out of the atmosphere in twenty-five to thirty years."
